Before and After Tips
Before Hurricane Milton Lands
Before the storm hits, be sure to photograph the exterior of your home (roof, gutters, soffit, trees, screens etc.). This will document pre-storm conditions to eliminate any concerns of ‘pre-existing damage’. Email these photos to yourself for your records.

After Hurricane Milton
YOU pick your contractor, don’t let the contractor pick you.
There will be lots of door knockers and people on Facebook and Instagram trying to “help” homeowners with their roof claim. Research online and find a contractor that fits your needs. Great ways to research include:
- Verifying they are licensed in FL as a roofing contractor
- Verifying they are a business (some will pretend to be and just take your money and leave)
- Verify they have insurance
- Check for news stories about the business or business owner
- Read their Google reviews and BBB rating
- Verify they have location that does not include a UPS store address, virtual office, or office in a place unlikely to house a roofing company like an apartment or office building
You don’t have to have your contractor litigate or supplement (get extra money from the insurance) on the front end. This slows down your building process, meaning you could be waiting for up to 1 year for a new roof! The only person who benefits is the contractor (and possibly lawyer) because they get paid more for the same job – often double or triple.
